of wildlife. Surrounded in artwork by artisans of the Big Island, the resort evokes a peaceful sanctuary
shrouded in true natural splendor.
Discover The Pure Beauty Of Our Hawaii Big Island Hotel
The genuine Hawaiian hospitality and "Aloha Spirit" of our impressive Hawaii Big Island hotel extends to
all visitors and guests of the award-winning resort - including the resident wildlife. The 62 oceanfront
acres of Hilton Waikoloa Village serve as a protected oasis and also houses an extensive gallery of art
work by natives of Hawaii. The combination of lush wildlife and brilliant works of art, make this Hawaii
Big Island resort a truly unique and peaceful destination.
The Gallery
The Gallery opened in the summer of 2003 and is in the Lagoon Tower. The gallery features
award-winning artists that reside on Hawaii's Big Island. You'll find art work ranging from
wood block prints, etchings, oil, acrylic, silk, pastel and watercolor paintings to raku
pottery, fine furniture and wood turnings as well as sculpture in clay, wood and bronze,
hand blown and fused glass. The gallery offers an exciting blend and fusion of diverse heritage
mixed with Hawaiian culture.

Wildlife
Over 46 animals, each with their own distinct personality and excluding the tropical fish and Japanese
koi, call Hilton Waikoloa Village home. The majority of the wildlife is in the Avian (Bird) Species.
While exploring the resort, one may discover eight Chilean flamingo, three nene (Hawaii's state bird
and the only goose native to the Hawaiian Islands), and black necked swans swimming in the pond adjacent
to Palm Terrace restaurant. Additionally, an impeyan monal (type of pheasant), silver pheasant, reeves'
pheasant, and three African crowned cranes can be found on the islands scattered about the lagoon canal
and boatway. The African crowned cranes are famous for their "Bug Dance," as they hop and frolic, shaking
up the dirt so the bugs will surface for a quick snack.
Patricia (triton cockatoo), Butterscotch (salmon crusted cockatoo), and Iniki (goffin's cockatoo) of the
Psittaciformes Family, Cactuidae Genus greet guests with a squawked "Aloha" or "Hello." The birds can also
say their own names, due to the great repetition of these words from previous guests and visitors.
Butterscotch is a favorite among guests. According to Wildlife Supervisor Tessa Cazimero, who has worked
with Hilton Waikoloa Village wildlife for eighteen years, guests and team members often call the wildlife
department inquiring where Butterscotch is perched that day. Cockatoos are very affectionate and gentle
creatures.
Other members of the Psittaciformes Family, in the Psittacidae Genus, include three Blue & Gold Macaws
(Pura, Mia, and Ikaika); two Military Macaws (Sarge, Kelly); Chelsea the Scarlet Macaw, Mike the Green
Winged Macaw, two Red-Shouldered Macaws (Pete and Repete), Harley the Harlequinn Macaw, and Christian the
Catalina Macaw. We can't forget about Cosmo, the African Grey Parrot, also in the Psittaciformes Family,
but in the Psittacus Genus.
Six red-footed tortoises and several rare green sea turtles (who come and go as they please) live in the
four-acre saltwater lagoon. You will often locate them gathered at the waterfall, as the alga makes a
great meal. The lagoon also protects the turtles from other marine animals, as the green sea turtles are
an endangered species.
The canal boatway and ocean-fed lagoon are teeming with tropical saltwater fish of all varieties from
yellow tangs and sergeant major or mamo to unicorn fish and spotted damsels. The resident four-foot
barracuda named Elvis is notorious for appearing by Donatoni's
restaurant's lanai right about dinner time each evening. Six hundred and forty-five Japanese Koi, a
symbol of prosperity, strength, and courage, also swim about the resort, from the ponds at the
Seaside Putting Course to the
pond surrounding Imari and the Japanese tea house.
Canal Boatway
Those interested in gaining a glance at several of the plants , all from the luxury of a boat, can take Hilton Waikoloa Village's complimentary canal boat that meanders throughout the property.
