Winter weather in Hawaii still reaches the high 70s, making beach gatherings a popular way to bring in the New Year. Ala Moana Beach Park is Hawaii’s 100-acre park with over a half-mile of beach and is the popular place for New Year picnics, barbecues, and celebrations.

You don’t have to go far to find fireworks in the night sky on New Year’s Eve in Hawaii. It’s said that fireworks act as a way to ward off evil spirits, as well as to bring about good fortune and happiness - a great way to start the new year. Waikiki Beach will host a spectacular fireworks show from a barge just off Waikiki Beach. The show starts at 11:55 pm with one announcement firework every minute before midnight. This Japanese tradition has become popular in Hawaii. Find retailers at Ala Moana Center on January 1 and purchase a ‘happy grab bag’ filled with merchandise worth at least double the sales price.
